About
Wildlife
There is an amazing variety of wildlife in the area, including howler monkeys, red squirrels, many beautiful birds, coati, iguanas and much more. You will find our house filled with geckos at night, which are very helpful to keep the bugs in check! Please be respectful of the wildlife and keep your distance. Along with amazing wildlife and beautiful gardens we have lots of bugs here in Nosara. We use an eco-friendly treatment to spray the house for cockroaches, scorpions and large flying insects every few months. Still, it is best to keep screens or doors closed after sunset. You will see different ants in the house, but they are harmless.
Design
It was important to us to design a home with minimal environmental impact and to maximize our contact and interaction with nature. The home cools naturally through cross ventilation, and almost all hallways and rooms can be opened to the gardens outside. Only the kitchen, bedrooms and media rooms have air conditioning. You will feel close to nature everywhere in the house. Flow was essential to our design, and you will see and feel how the house flows with the natural terrain rather than imposing upon it. The center of the house transitions create a vertical loop, so there are many moments to experience as you move about our home. Social areas were intentionally designed away from the bedrooms to allow guests privacy.
Beach Saftey
Ocean Safety: Guiones beach is generally safe for adults and children alike; however, there are dangers you must consider before entering the ocean. The closest beach entrance to us is Bakers Beach, a short 5 min walk from our house: VERY IMPORTANT: Only enter the ocean NORTH of the entrance (turn right). To the south, there are tide pools, which are beautiful for bathing at low tide but create VERY STRONG riptides during mid and high tide. Do not swim, surf, boogie board south of the entrance. Please do not enter the ocean where a red flag is displayed. Most days, the ocean is very safe; however, we experience riptides from time to time north of our entrance.
